Candy Royal Purple

Candy · Vivid Deep Purple

SKU: KF-C-ROYALPURPLE Category:

One of our best-selling candies — Royal Purple produces a rich, vivid purple with extraordinary depth over silver metallic. Between the deep dark violet and the bright magenta, this is a perfectly balanced purple that works on almost any project.

Aerosol vs. spray gun: The 400ml can is ready-mixed — shake well and spray straight from the can. The 100ml, 250ml, 500ml and 1L sizes are concentrate for a spray gun: shake thoroughly, then mix 1:1 with reducer/thinner (equal parts paint and thinner) before spraying.

Description

Candy paint is a translucent, dye-based colour rather than a solid pigment — you're seeing light pass through a stained clear layer and bounce back off the base coat underneath, not an opaque coat of colour. Because of that, coat count controls depth: each extra layer deepens the colour, similar to stacking sheets of coloured glass. A bright, reflective silver metallic base coat is essential here, as it acts like a mirror that bounces light back through the candy layer to produce that deep, glowing jewel-tone look. Candy pigments are also more prone to UV fade than solid colours over time, so a proper clear coat matters for anything that will live outdoors.

Recommended System

Base coat: Metallic Silver Base Coat
Clear coat: Etalon Clearcoat Lacquer

Using the 400ml Aerosol

Ready to spray straight from the can — no mixing required.

  1. Shake the can vigorously for at least 2 minutes before use — the agitator ball inside needs to fully mix the pigment. This is the single most common cause of uneven effects when skipped.
  2. Hold the can 20–30cm (8–12 inches) from the surface and test your spray pattern on cardboard first.
  3. Apply 2–4 thin, even coats rather than one heavy coat, flashing off each coat for around 5 minutes before the next.
  4. After use, invert the can and spray for 2 seconds to clear the nozzle and prevent blockages.

Using the Spray Gun Mix

This concentrate needs thinning before it will spray correctly through a gun — it is not ready to use straight from the tin.

  1. Shake thoroughly, then mix at a 1:1 ratio with reducer/thinner (equal parts paint and thinner) as a starting point — add a little more thinner if the mix still feels thick.
  2. Use an HVLP spray gun fitted with a 1.3–1.5mm tip, at roughly 20–30 PSI.
  3. Always spray a test card first and adjust the fan width and fluid control before touching your actual surface.
  4. Hold the gun 15–20cm (6–8 inches) from the surface, moving in smooth, overlapping passes with around 50% overlap.
