Description
Fluorescent pigments absorb UV light and re-emit it as visible light, which is what gives them their glow — including the reaction you see under black light. A gloss white base coat reflects the maximum amount of light back up through the fluorescent layer, keeping the colour bright and vivid; dark bases absorb light instead and noticeably dull the effect. Fluorescent pigments are also more UV-sensitive over time than standard colours, so a UV-protective clear coat helps the brightness last.
